GWCA Presents: Evan Habkirk - March 1, 2016 @ 7.30 p.m.

Evan Habkirk is completing his PhD with the University of Western Ontario’s History Department, with research assistantships in their Anthropology, Kinesiology, and First Nations Studies programs. 

Evan gained valuable research experience dealing with the First Nations military while completing his MA at Trent University in 2010 with his thesis, Militarism, Sovereignty, and Nationalism: Six Nations and the First World War.

Currently, Evan is working on his Ph.D. thesis entitled Co-opting Militarism: Changes in Six Nations Militarism, 1814-1914, exploring the changes and continuation of Six Nations militarism from the end of the War of 1812 into the First World War.  

Evan also has an expertise in Residential school policy, becoming a consultant researcher under the head of Historical Research for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in 2011, and he continues to research the use of military, sport, and health in the Canadian Residential school system.
