George Lawrence Abbott

George L. Abbott, of 324 Rawdon Street, died Tuesday in Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto, in his 73rd year.  He was born in the Port Dover district, the son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Abbott and resided in Brantford for 52 years.  He was a machine operator at Massey-Ferguson Limited and was with the old Ruddy Firm here for 25 years and for 13 years was with George Weston Company, retiring seven years ago.  A veteran of the First World War, he enlisted with the 216th Battalion and served overseas. He was a member of Branch 90 of the Canadian Legion.  Surviving are three sons, William, Harry and Richard, all of Brantford; four daughters, Mrs. John (Ila) Sandford, Mrs. Leta Hancock, both of Brantford, Mrs. Owen (Reta) Hearns of Drumbo, Mrs. William (Audrey) Wilson of Waterford; three sisters, Mrs. William (Mabel) Mason of Stoneboro, Penn., Mrs. James (Beatrice) Reekie of Simcoe and Mrs. John (Katherine) Wakely of Brantford; 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  His wife, the former Gladys Kitchen predeceased him in 1949.  Mr. Abbott is resting at the Hill and Robinson Funeral Home until Friday for service in the chapel at 3.30 p.m.  Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
