Descendant of Joseph Brant Dies

Albert Wilfred L. Crain, 67 a great grandson of Joseph Brant, died Sunday at Chedoke Hospital, Hamilton.

He was agency assistant at the Six Nations Indian Agency, Brantford for 42 years, retiring in 1960.  A former member of the Mississauga’s of the Credit Band Council, he farmed for many years at New Credit on the reservation.

Mr. Crain served as company sergeant major with the 4th Battalion of Hamilton during the First World War.

A past noble grand of the IOOF branch at Hagersville, he was a member of the Hagersville Citizen Band and later of the Hagersville Lions Band.  He was a member of Hagersville United Church and served on the board of stewards.

In later years he was an employee of the West Haldimand High School at Hagersville.

Surviving is his wife, the former Flora Montour; two sons, Arthur of Brantford and Wilfred of Niagara Falls, Ont. Three daughters, Mrs. William (Mary) Duschi of Waterdown, Mrs. Norman (Elinor) Craige of Thamesford, Mrs. Clarence (Frances) McKay of Dunnville; 14 grandchildren; two brothers, Frank and John of Hagersville, a sister, Mrs. Mary Clause of Hamilton.

Mr. Crain is at the William L. Mott Funeral Home, Hagersville from Tuesday noon.  Services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. with interment in New Credit Cemetery.  Rev. Harry Martin of Hagersville United Church will officiate.  An IOOF service will be conducted Tuesday at 9 p.m.
