Death Calls A.E. Plows

Albert E. (Ab) Plowes, well-known local business man, passed away at his residence, 63 Port Street, Saturday afternoon at the age of 56 years, after an illness of seven months’ duration.  Born in resided here all his life.  A veteran of the First Great War, he served with the 70th Battery. Pervious to enlisting he was employed with Wiles and Quinlan of this city. After returning he opened his own men’s furnishing store, which had conducted for the past twenty-six years.  A member of the Native Sons of Canada and of Wesley United Church, he served Brantford as alderman, representing Ward 5 in 1929 and 1930. He leaves besides his widow, formerly Miss Edna Hawley, one son Edward C. at home, two daughters, Misses Gene and Ruth at home, his father, James E. Plowes, City; two brothers, Charles, Winnipeg, William J. Vancouver, and three sisters, Mrs. J. Stonehill, Port Huron, Mich., Mrs. J. Darwen and Mrs. J.L. Kendrick, Toronto. His mother predeceased him two years ago.  Mr. Plowes is resting at the residence until Tuesday morning.  The funeral service will take place in the afternoon in Reid and Brown’s Chapel. Interment will be in Farringdon Burial Ground.

The funeral of A.E. (Ab) Plowes was conducted Tuesday afternoon from Reid and Brown’s Funeral Chapel.  Rev. H.A. Graham, former Minister of the deceased, was in charge of the service.  During the service, Jack Lavery sang “Rock of Ages,” accompanied by Mrs. John Schultz.  Members of the Native Sons of Canada conducted last rites for their departed brother Monday evening at the residence.  The service was in charge of President N.E. Lickers and Chaplain J.J. Roach.  The pallbearers were James Robinson, Ernie Lavery, Thomas Hawley, Charles Niblock, Hugh Thompson and Fred Scott. Interment was in the Farringdon Burial Ground.
