Word has been received by Mr. Charles Read, 80 Winnett Street, that his son Private Albert Read had received a gunshot wound in the side and was now in the 3rd Western General Hospital at Cardiff. Pte. Read was wounded on September 3. He enlisted in May 1915, with the Dufferin Rifles. He was unmarried and many Brantford friends will watch eagerly for reassuring news of his progress.

Albert E. Read

The death of Albert E. Read, former resident of the City, now residing in the County, occurred at the Brantford General Hospital Wednesday, in his fifty-second year, after an illness of three weeks’ duration.  Born in Stoney Creek, Mr. Read came to this City when very small and has resided in this district all his life.  He was a veteran of the first Great War, having fought in France and England.  Mr. Read leaves to mourn his loss two brothers, Fred and Robert, and one sister, Mrs. B. Davis, all of this city.  He is resting at Reid and Brown’s Chapel until Friday when service takes place in the afternoon.  Interment will be in the Soldiers’ Plot in Mount Hope Cemetery.
