Works’ Foreman Has Signed Up – Alex Richardson Strong Man of Department, Enlists
Although twice rejected as unfit for overseas service, Alex “Sandy” Richardson of 75 West Mill Street, a foreman on the streets department, was not deterred in his desire to do his share in the defeating of the Huns, and is now a member of the 215th Battalion.
Private Alexander Kirkpatrick Richardson was twice turned down but tried again early this week at Burford. He made the trip to Burford for the express purpose of trying to enlist there with the 215th Battalion, and to his great joy was successful. His first rejection was on account of his eyesight.
For nine years he has been employed by the corporation, in fact ever since he came to Canada from Scotland. For two years he was a laborer and ever since has held down a foreman’s berth. He is one of the most popular foremen in the works’ department, and has the reputation of being the strongest man in the employ of the corporation. He is six feet, one and a half inches tall and his fellow workmen tell with pride one of his feats, when he carried five bags of cement in his hands, a load of close to 500 pounds.
Richardson is a married man and has a family of three children. He is spoken of in the highest terms by his brother workmen and bosses.
