Circumstances of Casualty: Killed in Action. He was one of a party who were carrying gas shells from a dump in the vicinity of Lievin to a more forward point, and whilst performing this duty, the party were subjected to heavy shell fire from the enemy. When nearing the destination on the second trip he was almost instantaneously killed when a shell landed near him, pieces of which entered his body in several places.
