Private C.J. Ackers Wounded in Arm – Former Brantford Boy Enlisted in Winnipeg and Was in 16th Batt.

In a telegram from the militia department this morning, Mrs. W.R. Ackers of 58 Ontario Street received word that her son Pte. Charles Joseph Ackers, of the 16th Battalion had been wounded by a gun shot in the left arm and admitted to No. 2. Canadian Stationary Hospital on December 8.

Private Ackers has been away from Brantford for about four years. He enlisted in Winnipeg in February of last year with the 43rd Cameron Highlanders’ and when he got to Shorncliffe, England, was transferred to the 16th Battalion.

He has been at the front ever since July. In Winnipeg, Ackers was employed in the C.P.R. Gardens. Last Christmas he spent at the home of his parents here.

Charles J. Ackers passed away suddenly at Kapuskasing, Ontario. The funeral will be conducted from the home of Mrs. C. Sullivan, 27 Brock Street, Brantford

The funeral of Charles Ackers was conducted Friday afternoon from the home of Mrs. C. Sullivan, 27 Brock Street, Rev. W.M. Willoughby of the Alliance Gospel Tabernacle conducted the services and was assisted by Rev. H.A. Graham of Wesley United Church. The funeral was very largely attended by sorrowing friends, and there were many beautiful floral tributes, indicating the high regard in which the deceased was help by his many friends. The pallbearers were Dick Radcliffe, Arthur Radcliffe, Gordon MacFarlane, James Spencer, Basil Penrice and Mr. McNamara. Interment was in Mount Hope Cemetery.
