Charlie Bourne War Veteran, Dies in Hospital
Charles Henry (Charlie) Bourne, well known war veteran and fraternal man, died in Sunnybrook Military Hospital, Toronto, on Tuesday. He was 62 years old.
Mr. Bourne was born here the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Charles Bourne, and except for service in war, spent his life here. He was educated at Ryerson Public School and the Collegiate Institute and Vocational School.
Charlie Bourne enlisted at a very early age for service in the First World War and served two years in France.
On returning he took up accountancy and in that capacity served Canning Brothers for 25 years, retiring in 1956.
Mr. Bourne was very active in Free Masonry. He was a past master of Doric Lodge; a 32nd Degree Scottish Riter, being a member of Murton Lodge of Perfection, Hamilton Chapter Rose Croix, Moore Sovereign Consistory and the Brantford Scottish Rite Association. He was also assistant grand director of ceremonies of the Grand Lodge of Ontario, a member of Mocha Temple Shrine, and the Brantford Shriners Club. A member of the Church of England, he attended St. John’s Church and was a member of the Anglican Brotherhood.
He is survived by his wife, Adeline Riley Bourne of Bell Lane, Brantford.
Mr. Bourne is resting at the Beckett Funeral Home for service there Friday at 2 p.m. rev. C.V. Tomkins will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
