BX July 18, 1917

Mr. and Mrs. J.K. Kern of this place received a cable on Tuesday announcing the death of their son, Gunner Charles Edward Kern of the 11th Battery, killed in action on July 4th. He was 24 years old, and Mr. and Mrs. Kern feel their loss very keenly, and the sympathy of many friends will go out to them in their great loss and bereavement. Prior to his enlistment, he was employed in a big store in Hamilton, where he had many friends who will learn of his death with regret. A memorial service will be held in the Methodist Church next Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock to be conducted by Rev. John Neill of Salford, an old and esteemed friend of the family.
