Returned Men

Thirteen returned soldiers were expected back yesterday, and it is known that at least seven of these arrived. Seven came home on the 3.52 G.T.R. train and were met by a large deputation from the Soldiers’ Aid Commission and the Great War Veterans’ Association. The men who were met are as follows: C.F. Read, 72 Brunswick; R. Doyle, 44 Northumberland; T. Hellewell, 75 Wallace; E. Knibb, Holmedale; E.M. McCormack, Charing Cross; Sergt. T. Simpson, 44 Curtis and W.W. Wakeling, 14 Burford.

Charles Frederick Read

The death of Charles F. Read, 105 Dundas Street, occurred at the Brantford General hospital after a lengthy illness.  Deceased was in his 64th year and had been a resident of this city for the past 30 years.  He was a native of England and attended the Baptist church.  He leaves to mourn his loss, beside his widow, one daughter, Mrs. Cecil Davis, this city and three sons, Albert and Robert, this city, and Frederick, Newport.  Two brothers and one sister, resident in England, also survive.  The funeral will be conducted tomorrow from the residence with interment in the Soldiers’ Plot at Mount Hope Cemetery.

Charles Frederick Read

The funeral of Charles F. Read was conducted yesterday from the residence 105 Dundas Street, with interment in the Soldiers’ Plot at Mount Hope Cemetery.  Rev. William Carpenter had charge of the services at the home and graveside.  A large attendance and a profusion of flowers testified to the esteem in which the deceased was held.  The bearers were: J. Chambers, C. Secord, A. Jackson, A. Sargeant, H. Loe and G. Loe.
