Charles M. Sheppard Dies in Kincardine

A well-known and highly respected citizen of Brantford, Charles M. Sheppard died Tuesday in Kincardine at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H.G. Gordon.

He was born in Paisley, Ont., the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Francis E. Sheppard and came to Brantford in 1910.  Since then he has operated the Sheppard and Son Jewelry Store on Colborne Street.  

A veteran of the First World War, he served as a captain with the 125th Battalion, CEF.

He was a member of Ozias Masonic Lodge, and the Scottish Rite Association.  Mr. Sheppard was also a former member of the Brantford Rotary Club and the Brantford Club.

Active in sports, he was a member and past president of the Brantford Curling Club and former member of the Brantford Golf and Country Club.

Surviving are his wife, the former Dorothy M. Thomson and one son, Charles E. Sheppard of Brantford; one daughter, Mrs. H. G. (Ann) Gordon of Kincardine; one sister, Mrs. Richard (Helen) Dunlap of New York City; one brother, Alton M. Sheppard of Hamilton, and four grandchildren.

Mr. Sheppard is resting at his residence, 15 Chestnut Avenue until Thursday for service at 2.30 p.m.  Interment will be in the family plot in Farringdon Burial Ground.

The funeral of Charles M. Sheppard was conducted Thursday afternoon at his residence, 15 Chestnut Avenue, Rev. Dr. Harold W. Vaughan of Zion United Church officiate, assisted by Rev. Robert T. Young of Farringdon Independent Church.  There was a large attendance at the service, with representatives of the military life, business associates and the Brant Curling Club in attendance.  A large floral display, Gideon bibles and cancer cards were dedicated to Mr. Sheppard’s memory.  Honorary bearers were P.E. James, P.A. Shultis, Dr. R.W. Digby, H.J.G. McLean, C.C. Slemin, J.A.D. Slemin, D.M. Waterous, K.V. Bunnell, D.J. MacDonald, S.W. Seago, W.A. Cockshutt, W.H. Coghill, M.F. Verity, D. McLennan, G.G. Scott, G. Gresier, S.S. Lee and S.W. Stedman.  Pallbearers were William Robinson of London, Archibald Sheppard of Niagara Falls, Robert Mackett of Toronto, James Young of Georgetown, Thomas Forbers, Howard Foote, both of Brantford.  Interment was in the family plot, Farringdon Burial Ground.
