Sprained his Knee

Sapper Charles Elgin Wheeland of the 4th Field Company, Canadian Engineers, is now in the base hospital with a sprained knee.  He was working on a bridge, from which he fell, causing the injury on May 29.  It was some time before he sent word to his home here.

Returning Home

Mr. and Mrs. C.E.M. Wheeland, 29 Palmerston Avenue, have just received a cable from their son, Corporal Charles Elgin Wheeland, informing them that he will spend Christmas with them. This is exceedingly good news in view of the fact that Corp. Wheeland has been overseas for three years and has not been home once during that time. It is expected that his furlough will last about one month. He enlisted as a private with the 7th Mounted Rifles and until one year ago was engaged in the building of trenches and barbwire entanglements in France. Here he injured his knee so seriously that he was unfit for further field work and was transferred to the C.A.M.C., with which he has since been serving in a clerical capacity.
