Another Constable Enlists

Constable Christopher Roberts, one of the most popular members of the local police staff, has answered the call to arms, and this morning volunteered his services with the active service company of the Second Dragoons. Constable Roberts was taken on the police force last August, he being one of three officers who were added to the strength of the staff after Constables Cara, Blanchard and Cobden left for the front. Since that time Constable Roberts has been acting as patrol driver and deskman.

Constable Roberts has spent the greater part of his life in military work. During his early manhood he spent several years in the Imperial navy and army, and prior to his coming to Canada was a member of the famous Liverpool, Eng., police force. On joining the active service company of the 2nd Dragoons this morning he was immediately given his corporal stripes, and bids fair to achieve early promotion from this rank. Roberts is a married man, without family. He resides at 102 Cayuga Street.

Constable Honored

Saturday evening, just before the night men reported for duty at the police station, the members of the police department presented Constable Roberts, who is leaving on active service, with a beautiful engraved wrist watch.

Sergeant J.T. Wallace made the presentation on behalf of the members of the department, after which each officer present made a few remarks, by which they bade Constable Roberts a formal farewell. Constable Roberts made a fitting reply, during which he made mention of the cordial relations that had always existed between the other members of the force and himself. Roberts is leaving for active service as sergeant with the Second Dragoons.
