Edwin Simpson Braund

Edwin Simpson Braund, for many years a well-known and highly respected resident of the Mount Pleasant Road, passed away Friday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Elgin Smith, 82 Chatham Street.  He had been ill for some time. Mr. Braund came to Brantford more than forty years ago, at the time the Verity Plow Works was moved from Exeter.  He was in the employ of that company until his retirement some years ago.  He was a member and elder of Balfour Street Untied Church.  Mrs. Braund predeceased him seven years ago.  Mr. Braund leaves to mourn his loss two sons, Cecil and Gordon, City; four daughters, Greta and Jean, Honolulu; Marion, Saginaw, Mich. and Jule, City, and a brother Luther, City.  Deceased is resting at Reid and Brown’s Slumber Room until Monday afternoon.  A private service in the chapel at the funeral home will be followed by a public service in Balfour Street Untied Church. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Edwin Simpson Braund

The funeral Edwin S. Braund was conducted Monday afternoon with a private service at Reid and Brown’s chapel, followed by a largely attended public service at Balfour Street United Church.  Rev. A.W. Brown, minister of the church was in charge of the service, and paid glowing tribute to deceased’s outstanding efforts in the interests of the choir during the past 60 years, as a member of the Board of Elders, as well as in other phases of church work.  During the service at the church, three favorite hymns of the deceased were sung.  The presence of a large number of relatives and friends, including many members of the church congregation, as well as the profusion of floral tributes, indicated the high esteem in which deceased was held.  The pallbearers were J. Dewar, C. Calvesbert, F. Chambers, E. McCormack, C. Goodall and W. Farr, elders of Balfour Street Untied Church.  Interment was in Mount Hope Cemetery.  Mr. Braund served overseas during the last war with the Canadian Ordinance Corps.  An active member of the Brantford Horticultural Society and the West end Garden Club, he was the winner of many trophies and prizes for his beautiful floral displays.
