Frederick Martindale

The death of Frederick Martindale, beloved husband of Mary Herwood, occurred suddenly Monday at his residence, 108 Pearl Street, in his sixty-third year, Mr. Martindale had worked as usual in the morning but death came unexpectedly at noon.  The deceased was born in England and served in the First Great War, enlisting at Brantford with the third contingent.  Besides his sorrowing widow he leaves to mourn his loss three daughters, Mrs. James Pollock, Detroit, Mich.; Miss Lillian Martindale, at home, and Mrs. Cecil Pronger, Woodstock; two sisters and two brothers in England and a third brother, John Martindale, Brantford.  Mr. Martindale is resting at Thorpe Brothers’ Funeral Home where funeral service will be conducted Wednesday afternoon with interment in the Soldiers’ Plot in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Frederick Martindale

Funeral services for Frederick Martindale were conducted Wednesday afternoon from Thorpe Brothers’ Funeral Home, Rev. Wayman K. Roberts Pastor of First Baptist Church, officiated for the services.  Many friends and a large number of associates from the Canadian Legion were present to pay a final tribute to his worth.  At the graveside in the Soldiers’ Plot in Mount Hope Cemetery, Bugler P. Gillingwater sounded the Last Post.  The pallbearers, all members of the Canadian Legion, were E. Edwards, J. Oles, M. Martin, D. Rolds, A. Mattice and R. Kelso.
