BX October 2, 1918

Mrs. Thurston, 126 Queen Street, has received word that her husband, Pte. Frederick William Thurston has been admitted to the 33rd casualty clearing station with a gunshot wound in the back and arm. Private Thurston has seen a lot of service in France. He has been previously gassed twice. He left here with the 36th Battalion in March, 1915.

BX October 11, 1918

The sad intelligence has been received that Pte. Frederick William Thurston, previously reported as dangerously wounded, died of his wounds on Sept. 28. Private Thurston went overseas with the 36th Battalion, and was a well known employee of Slingsby’s prior to his enlistment. He had seen a lot of service in France, having been gassed twice before he made the supreme sacrifice. He leaves a widow and little girl. Five of Private Thurston’s brothers have seen service, one having been killed and one losing a leg in the service.

BX December 21, 1917

Mrs. W. Thurston, 306 Marlboro Street, received official word today that her husband, Private Frederick William Thurston, 36th Battalion, had been admitted to the third ambulance depot on December 9, with gas poisoning. He was employed at the Slingsby Mills previous to enlistment. He had been slightly gassed and sent to hospital on a previous occasion.
