BX August 28, 1945

George Bennett

George Bennett, 43 ½ Colborne Street, seventy-five years of age, passed away Monday in the Brantford General Hospital.  Mr. Bennett was born at Whitechapel, London, England and came to Canada when he was eleven.  A moulder by trade, he worked for various firms in this City and retired from the Massey-Harris Company, Ltd., plant here five years ago.  Enlisting in the First Great War, he served for three years at Camp Borden and Trenton.  Mr. Bennett was a member of the Canadian Legion.  Surviving besides his widow, Mrs. Ellen Bennett, are a brother, John, Chicago, and two nieces who reside in Toronto.  Mr. Bennett is resting at the McCleister Funeral Home until Wednesday afternoon when the funeral will be conducted.  Interment will be in the Soldiers’ Plot in Mount Hope Cemetery.

George Bennett

The funeral of George Bennett, 43 ½ Colborne Street, was conducted Wednesday afternoon from the McCleister Funeral Home.  Rev. John Kelman, Padre of Post No. 90 Canadian Legion, was in charge of the service.  Military honors were accorded Mr. Bennett by comrades of Post 90, Canadian Legion.  The favorite hymn of the deceased, “The Old Rugged Cross,” was played.  The pallbearers, all members of the Legion, were G. Gaydon, H. Twidale, A. Mattice, W. Hammond, J. Turner and W. Stevens.  E.R. Edwards was in charge of the Legionnaires.  The Last Post” was sounded at the Soldiers’ Plot in Mount Hope Cemetery by Bugler G. Gibson, No 5 I.T.B.
