Reported Wounded

“In No. 14 General Hospital at Wimereux, suffering from a gunshot wound in his wrist,” was the word received this morning by Mrs. S. Kewaley, of 2 Esther Avenue, in regard to her son, Private George Arnold Cooper. Although only 17 years of age, Pte. Cooper has proven himself a hero. He went overseas with the first Brant County Battalion. Prior to enlistment he worked in the Bolt department of the Massey-Harris company.

Twelve Brantford Men Are Reported Wounded – Canadian Casualty List Included Half Score From This City All of Whom Have Been Wounded – Gunshot in Arms and Legs Cause of Majority of Hospital Cases – First Brant Battalion Draft Hit

Private word received in this city yesterday afternoon and today added 11 new names to the already large casualty list. All were wounded on or about April 9, this being in the attack on Vimy Ridge, which resulted so gloriously for the Canadian forces.

Of all the Brantford men wounded, practically all were shot wounds in the arms or shoulders, legs or thighs. But one of the 11 was reported seriously wounded. The list of casualties follows:

Private George Arnold Cooper, 2 Esther Street Brantford, with one of the service battalions at the front, has been wounded according to a late casualty list at noon today. Pte. Geo Cooper from Brantford, under the address, 13 Gordon Street, is given in the Expositor records as having enlisted with a draft from the 38th Dufferin Rifles early in 1915, but whether this is the man or not is not known.

Returned Men

Twelve months ago Sergeant James Duncan of this city was blown up and wounded at Vimy Ridge. As a result he was invalided home and arrived here last evening. Expected with him were G.A. Cooper, 2 Esther Street; W.T. Hurley, 45 Alonzo, and E.M. Knowles. However, one of the other arrived. A number more returned veterans are expected today or tomorrow. Duncan’s home is at 47 Edgerton Street. He came home on the 6.25 G.T.R. train, which was nearly an hour late, and was met by Mr. George MacDonald, secretary of the Soldiers’ Aid Commission.
