BX June 19, 1916
 
Gunner George Slade of the Medical Service has been officially reported wounded slightly in the left shoulder and admitted to the 4th Northern General hospital at Lincoln on June 11. Word to this effect has been received here by Mrs. A. Gyles, 345 Brock Street, with whom he formerly boarded. He left Brantford with the 32nd Battery. Gunner Slade lived in Brantford for five years and during that time worked for Bennett & Bowden and at Varity's. He had 13 1/2 years service in the navy and was also a veteran of the South African war. he is 36 years of age, unmarried and has no relatives here.

On His Way Home

That Gunner George Slade, who was wounded in June last, was on his way home was the word received today by Mrs. A. Gyles, 345 Brock Street. Gunner Slade was a single man who had, when he enlisted, about 14 years’ experience in the Royal Navy. He left with a draft from the 32nd Battery in the 1st Contingent.

Gunner George Slade, late of the 10th Battery, 3rd Brigade, 1st Canadian Division, has returned home, arriving back in the city last Wednesday.

George Slade 

The death took place suddenly Monday afternoon of George Slade, 38 Elgin Street, in his sixty-third year. Born in England he came here in 1910 and worked as a welder in Massey-Harris Co., Verity Works.  He served in the last war with the 18th Battalion.  The late Mr. Slade is resting at the Beckett Funeral Home where service will take place Thursday afternoon with interment in the Soldiers’ Plot, Mount Hope Cemetery.

George Slade

The funeral of George Slade was held Thursday afternoon from the Beckett Funeral Home and was largely attended by relatives and friends, including all the men from the department at Verity Works where Mr. Slade was formerly employed.  Rev. Thomas A. Madden was in charge of the service and the pallbearers were W. Babcock, J. Pealey, J. Gellatly, A. Churchward, F. Thouless and C. Bedford.  Interment was in the Soldiers’ Plot at Mount Hope Cemetery.
