Discover Body of Man, 57, in Grand River Near Park

The body of Gordon Campbell, 57, of 16 Pearl Street was recovered from a Grand River backwater opposite Agricultural Park on Sunday.  The fully-clothed body was found floating face-down by two young canoeists.  Robert *****, Brant Avenue, and David ****, George Avenue.  It was in five feet of water, about 15 feet from shore.  The cove is located near the junction of Spalding and Ballantyne Drives.  Police said Mr. Campbell had been in ill health for two years, and had recently been despondent.

Mr. Campbell served in the First World War with the 125th Battalion, enlisting before he was 16.  He was retired, after working for some years as a lineman for the Ontario Hydro.  He was unmarried.

He was born in Hamilton, son of the late Edward and Florence Campbell,   but was a Brantford resident most of his life.  He is survived by two brothers, Frank, Pickering Beach, Ont., formerly of Brantford, and Edward, Brantford, and three sisters, Mrs. Albert (Maude) Cogger, Brantford; Mrs. W. (Dorothy) Parker, Hamilton and Mrs. Michael (Anne) Foran, Brantford.

Mr. Campbell is resting at the Hill and Robinson Funeral Home.  The service will be conducted there at 3.30 p.m.  Tuesday by Rev. H.A. Smith, chaplain of the Telephone City Branch of the Canadian Legion, of which Mr. .Campbell was a member.  Interment will be in the Soldiers’ Plot of Mount Hope Cemetery.
