Corp. G. Wilson Invalided Home – Local Veteran of Original First Was Twice Shell-Shocked

Corporal Gordon Clarence Wilson, Mohawk Street, who arrived home this week, has seen a lot of service in this war. He left in August, 1914 with the 32nd Battery and went through training at Valcartier and Salisbury, and then proceeded to France. He was with the battery for five months and served through the second battle of Ypres. He was later transferred to the infantry, the second battalion. In the second battle of Ypres, he received concussion and a slight wound. He was also gassed slightly. In April 1916 he was shell shocked, having been blown over a trench. He has since been in hospital, and was invalided back to hospital for further treatment. Corp. Wilson formerly played baseball with the “Eagles” in Eagle Place and was well known throughout the city. He was working in Toronto when war broke out.
