BX May 9, 1917

Herbert File, 234 Dalhousie Street, received word from his son, Private Harold Robert File who has been with the 4th Battalion in France, that he has been admitted to Lord Derby’s Military Hospital in England, suffering from trench feet. In his letter he makes feeling reference to the death of “Billy” Livingston and Gordon Wilkinson, two of his pals and fellow members of the signalling corps., who recently fell in action. He states that Pte. Livingston met his death on April 9 (Easter Monday) and not on April 12 as was previously stated.

FILE, Harold Robert – At the Brantford General Hospital on Sunday, February 25, 1979 in his 81st year, Harold File of 24 Colborne Street West (Lorne Towers); beloved husband of Carrie File and the late Ariel (Lake) File; dear father of Mrs. Harold (Ruth) White of Toronto, Mrs. Harry (Norma) Fair of Brantford, Herbert of Brantford and Jack of Brantford, Mrs. Burt (Shirley) Blakely of Wallaceburg and the late Robert File; also survived by 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.  Mr. File was a veteran of two World Wars, serving with the Fourth Battalion of the First World War and past president of Local U.A.W. 397.  Visitation at the McCleister Funeral Home Ltd., 30 Brant Avenue, from Monday. Funeral service in the chapel on Tuesday at 2 p.m.  Interment in Greenwood Cemetery.  Father Alex F. Heron of St. Luke’s Anglican Church officiating.
