BX October 22, 1963

Harry K. Westlake, 69 of 73 Lyons Avenue, died Tuesday in the Brantford General hospital.  Born in Tavistock, England, he has been a resident of Brantford for the past 51 years.  Mr. Westlake was a veteran of the First World War, serving with the original 4th Battalion overseas service.  He was a member of St. James’ Anglican Church On-The-Hill, and was president of the Church Carpet Ball League.  An ardent sports fan, he was interested in all sports and had formerly coached girls’ baseball teams.  Mr. Westlake joined the Brantford Street Railway in 1919 and having operated the old streetcar was well known by many Brantford citizens.  He then operated the PUC buses.  Before retiring in 1954 he was at the PUC garage.  Surviving besides his wife, the former Florence Hunt, are one daughter, Mrs. Harry (Hazel) Blacker of Brantford; one sister, Mrs. Fred (Olive) Dann of Plymouth, England; one grandson of Brantford.  Mr. Westlake will be at Hill and Robinson Funeral Home for service in the chapel Thursday at 2 p.m. Rev. F.A. Cook of St. James’ Anglican Church On-The-Hill will officiate.  Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
