St. George News

St. George, July 25 – the citizens of the town were very enthusiastic in their reception of Private Henry Whyte, who arrived home on Thursday evening last, having seen his share of active service at the front. The parade of flag-bearers, the town’s brass and a score of sympathizers, admirers and friends, made quite an imposing sight. In their midst Pte. Henry Whyte rode in state in Mr. A.E. Green’s car. Mr. Frazer Morris of Paris, who is indispensable when the band is on parade, was in attendance with his cornet. After the parade a crowd gathered at the park, where speeches were made and a glad welcome home extended to one of our lads who soon after war broke out responded to the call for King and Country.
