Military Medal for Local Man – Lance Corporal Herbert Job Bonner Well Known Local Soccer Player

Lance Corporal Herbert John Bonner formerly a well-known member of the Brantford Football Club, has won the Military Medal. The Surrey Advertiser of recent date recorded.

Lance Corporal Herbert J. Bonner, son of Mr. G. Bonner of Culmer, Witley, has been awarded the Military Medal for continuous good service in France and for acts of bravery on the field. “Jobey,” as he was popularly known in Witley, was at one time a prominent playing member of the Witley cricket and football clubs. Emigrating to Canada six years ago, he continued to take an active interest in sport, and was a member of the Brantford Football Club. On the outbreak of the war he enlisted in the Brant Dragoons, but was transferred to the 84thCanadian Infantry Battalion, and afterwards to the 75th Battalion, with which he has seen considerable service in France. The officer commanding L.-Corp. Bonner’s battalion, in a letter to Mr. G. Bonner, says:  “I do not know of any decoration which has come to the battalion which was given such universal satisfaction as this one. Your son has on many occasions demonstrated his disregard for personal safety [?].
