Herb Butcher Dies at 74
Herbert H. Butcher Sr., 74, of 7 Hilda Street, died today at the Brantford General Hospital. Born in Dover, England, Mr. Butcher had been a resident of Brantford since 1911.
He was a veteran of the First World War, enlisting with the 125th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force, and transferred overseas to the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry, and was wounded in action.
Mr. Butcher returned to Brantford in 1920 and in 1924 established his own painting and decorating business (now H.H. Butcher and Son).
Mr. Bucher was a past master of Reba Lodge and was a 32nd degree Mason. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Association and Mocha Temple in London, and a member of Grace Anglican Church in Brantford.
Surviving are his wife, the former Elizabeth G. MacDonald; one son, Herbert D.; and three grandchildren, all of Brantford. A son, P.O. Jack Butcher of the RCAF, was killed in action in 1943.
Mr. Butcher is at the Beckett Funeral Home until Friday when service will be conducted at Grace Church at 2 p.m.
Interment will be in Farringdon Burial Ground with Ven. Archdeacon F.C. McRitchie officiating.
