Circumstances of Casualty: Killed in Action. During the operations in front of Cagnicourt, he was severely wounded in the head by enemy shrapnel. His wounds were immediately attended to by a stretcher bearer, but he died shortly after.

Private Herbert Cahill Died of Wounds

Word has been received in the city of the death in action on Sept. 3, of Private Herbert Cahill, 154 Pearl Street. The young man was formerly employed by J.M. Tulloch. He went overseas with the 215th Battalion, but in England became attached to the 125th. He leaves three brothers, John Joseph in the city, Reginald in Niagara Falls, and William in France; also one sister, Mrs. Putman of Port Huron.

Herbert Cahill Previously Reported Missing or Died

Word has been at last received covering the last hours of Private Herbert Cahill, 215th Battalion, previously reported missing or died. It has been learned by his brother, Jack Cahill, that Pte. Cahill while taking part in the operations in front of Cagnicourt, Sept. 3, 1918 was severely wounded by enemy shrapnel. His wounds were dressed but he died of his wounds that same day.
