James Henry Brown

Death took place yesterday at Cleveland, Ohio, of James Henry Brown.  In his forty-ninth year.  Mr. Brown was born in Brantford and as a young man took an active part in sports, playing on the Brantford Intercity League baseball team.  He enlisted in the 215th Battalion in the First Word War and on returning he married Miss Helen Fisher.  Later he went to Cleveland where he has resided for over twenty years.  Mr. Brown became well known as a steeple jack painter.  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. J.H. Brown, five sons, Norman, Donald, Lewis, Gerald, and Charles, two daughters, Helen and Mrs. Lorraine Marzi, all of Cleveland.  He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Harriett Brown, Brantford, three brothers, Albert, Freelton, Clarence and Earl, both of Brantford and three sisters, Mrs. B. Lamb, (Tena), Mrs. Jesse Kitchen (Gertrude), Scotland and Mrs. Jack Odbas (Rena), Brantford. Mr. Brown will arrive in Brantford Wednesday morning and will rest at the Beckett Funeral Home until Thursday afternoon when funeral service will be held with interment in The Soldiers’ Plot, Mount Hope Cemetery.

James Henry Brown

The funeral of James Henry Brown was conducted Thursday afternoon from the Beckett Funeral Home to the Soldiers’ Plot in Mount Hope Cemetery.  Rev. John Kelman, Padre of Branch No. 90 Canadian Legion, conducted the services, and Comrade E.R. Edwards was in charge of the Legion party.  G. McGregor, bugler, sounded The Last Post and reveille.  The pallbearers were Leo O’Heron, Jack Rowley, Charles Butler, John Emmett, Lawrence Neil and Gordon Dean.
