Circumstances of Casualty: Killed in Action. Advanced with his company from their “jumping off” position, across the Douai-Cambrai Road, and reached forward as far as the railway cutting South East of Sancourt, and consolidated this position. During the afternoon the company was subjected to very heavy enemy shelling, during which time Private Currie was instantly killed.

James Gillies, Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, N.Y., has received notification from Ottawa that Machine-Gunner James Craig Currie was killed in action on Sept 30. He is a Brantford boy. His brother, Tom was also killed at Vimy Ridge, 1917.
