October 9, 1918

Mrs. Lillian Sumby, 78 Emilie Street, has been officially notified that her husband, Pte. James Sumby is dangerously ill with gunshot wounds, received Oct, 2. He has been admitted to the 18th General Hospital at Dannes-Camiers. Private Sumby left here with the 125th Battalion, and was transferred to the 54th in France last March.

BX October 17, 1918

The late James Sumby, who was reported yesterday as having died of wounds, was a well known member of the Brantford Cricket Club before enlisting. He died at the 18th General hospital at Dannes-Camiers, and leaves a wife, Mrs. Lillian Sumby, at 78 Emilie Street, city, also a mother and father. Private Sumby enlisted with the 125th Battalion and was transferred to the 54th with which he served in France. He was before enlisting a Brantford bricklayer.
