James T. Thorpe
The death of James Thomas Thorpe, 63 Grey Street, occurred Friday in the Brantford General Hospital. Mr. Thorpe was born in London, England, 69 years ago, and came to this city 45 years ago. He was an employee of the City of Brantford for 40 years, and a member of the Canadian Legion. Mr. Thorpe served overseas with the 125th Battalion during the First World War, and was gassed at Ypres. He was an Anglican by faith. Left to mourn are his widow, the former Florence Cowling; one step-son, Ernest Mears, Brantford and five step-daughters, Mrs. George (Florence) Kuhlman, Paris; Mrs. Edward (Clara) Beare, Brantford; Mrs. Alfred (Mamie) Nicholls, Brantford; Mrs. Fred (Ethel) Jackson, Brantford, and Mrs. James (Dorothy) Davies, Brantford. Mr. Thorpe is resting at the Beckett Funeral Home, where service will be conducted Monday afternoon. Interment will be in Soldiers’ Plot, Mount Hope Cemetery.

The funeral of James Thomas Thorpe was conducted Monday afternoon from the Beckett Funeral Home to the Soldiers’ Plot, in Mount Hope Cemetery. Rev. F.W. Schaffter, of St. Jude’s Anglican Church, was in charge, and the pallbearers, all former fellow employees of the Board of Works, were Frank Sevier, William Clarke, Michael Dozak, John Fizor, Frank Zigmond and Gordon Craddock. The flower-bearers and guard of honor were members of Branch No. 90 Canadian Legion, and were under the command of Comrade E.R. Edwards. The Legionnaires were D. Monkman, J. Lune, H. Kneller, J. Turner and H. Turner.
