Injuries Fatal to Jack Brown – Accident Victim Died at Hospital Here Last Evening
Jack Brown, 19 Read Street, died in Brantford general hospital last night from injures he received when he was allegedly knocked down by a car driven by William McLaughlin, 151 Darling Street, on Saturday night.
Crown Attorney F.E.D. Wallace announced this morning that the authorities had not decided if an inquest will be held. McLaughlin has been charged with doing grievous bodily harm, after being arrested on a charge of vagrancy Saturday night.
The deceased leaves to mourn his loss two sons, Verdun and Roy, at home, one daughter, May, four brothers, William, Harold, Richard and Harry, and one sister, Mrs. Alfred Strain, all of England. His wife predeceased him three years ago.
The funeral will be held on Thursday afternoon from St. Paul’s Anglican Church to Mount Hope Cemetery. The body is resting at Beckett’s Funeral Home.
The deceased came to Brantford 26 years ago from England. At the outbreak of the war he enlisted with the 54th Battery and served with that Battery throughout the duration of the war. He has suffered more or less from his war experiences. He was Rector’s Warden of St. Pal’s Church and very active in all phases of church work. He was also a member of the Street Railway Men’s Union.

The funeral of Jack Brown, 10 Read St., Street Railway employee, whose death occurred in the Brantford General Hospital last Monday, was conducted Thursday afternoon, with a private service at the Beckett Funeral Home in charge of Rev. R.W. Lane of St. Paul’s Anglican Church. A public service in St. Paul’s Church was in charge of Rev. Mr. Lane, assisted by Ven. Archdeacon A.L.G. Clarke, T.H. Madden and the choirs of St. Paul’s and St. Luke’s Churches. A large gathering of relatives and friends attended, including many representatives of the Street Railwaymen’s Union, and of the Canadian Legion. There were many beautiful floral tributes. Interment was in Mount Hope Cemetery. The pallbearers being W. Minto, T. Weller, H. Westlake, D. Emslie, F. Tolley and A. Stanley, six fellow-employees of the deceased.
