BX May 26, 1917

Word was received on Saturday by Mrs. C. Crowley of 247 Marlborough Street, wife of Sergeant Crowley, now in England, that her son, Private John Alfred Crowley had been killed in action on May 3. The news came as a great shock to this mother, as he was the only son, and just 18 years of age. He enlisted on May 18, 1916, with the first overseas battalion of the “Duffs,” going across to France with the first draft. His father was with the same battalion but so far as known is still in England with the balance of the battalion. Prior to enlistment Private Crowley worked with the Cockshutt Plow Co. His father, mother and one sister, Sarah, survive the loss of a hero.
