A very pretty military wedding took place Tuesday afternoon when Miss Elizabeth Cowperthwaite became the bride of Sergt. J. McGrattan of the 38th. Mr. Harry Cowperthwaite acting as best man. Miss Phyllis Cowperthwaite made a very pretty bridesmaid, supported by her sister, Miss Francis, and Pte. T. Walsh and Bugler Harry Rance, who came from Niagara for the happy event.
The bride, who entered the church leaning on the arm of her father, looked sweet in embro veil with orange blossom and veil, and wearing a cameo and pearl necklace, the gift of the groom. She carried a shower bouquet of chrysanthemums, asters and smilax.
The bridesmaids wore embro veil and carried bouquets of mauve asters. The bride’s mother was in black silk with mauve corsage bouquet. After the ceremony the guests to the number of 60 sat down to a dainty wedding breakfast which was served in the dining room at the home of the bride’s mother.
During the evening Company Sergt. Major Blanchard and a number of the groom’s fellow comrades paid a surprise visit and all spoke highly of the groom’s good qualities and assured him of their hearty good will.
Sergt. Major Blanchard also congratulated Mrs. McGrattan on having the courage to marry a man and then send him out to fight for his King and country.
The many and costly gifts show the great esteem in which the young couple are held.
It was a happy company which broke up in the wee small hours after wishing the bridal pair every happiness and joy.
