John Mitchell

The death occurred Sunday in Westminster Hospital in London of John Mitchell, who formerly resided at 110 Sydenham Street here.  He was in his sixty-seventh year, and passed away after a lingering illness.  Born in England, he resided in Brantford for thirty-five years prior to going to the London Hospital.  He served in World War 1, holding the rank of sergeant with the 19th Battalion.  He was employed with the Verity Plow Company here up until ten years ago, when ill-health forced his retirement.  He was a member of the Brantford Branch of the Canadian Legion, and of Trinity Anglican Church and its Brotherhood.  Surviving are: one daughter, Mrs. Gordon young, Sudbury; one brother, Alfred England; two sisters, Miss Margaret Mitchell and Mrs. A. Marr, both of Hamilton, and six grandchildren.  Funeral service will be held Thursday afternoon in the Reid and Brown Funeral Chapel, with interment in the Soldiers’ Plot in Mount Hope Cemetery.

The funeral of John Mitchell was conducted Thursday afternoon from Reid and Brown’s Funeral Chapel.  Rev. T.D. Painting, Trinity Anglican Church, had charge of the service.  The pallbearers, all members of the Canadian Legion, Branch No. 90 were H. Twidale, G. Gaydon, D. Monkman, R. Horsnell, W. Durrant and W. Hammond.  E.R. Edwards was in charge of the Legionnaires.  L/Cpl. George Graham, No. 5 I.T.B. sounded The Last Post at the graveside. Interment was in the soldiers’ Plot in Mount Hope Cemetery.
