Served Throughout Period of War – Late John H. Stratford Held in High Esteem by Numerous Friends

The late John H. Stratford, whose death in Toronto was briefly noted in last evening’s issue, was in his 45th year.  Born in Brantford, at “Glenhyrst,” the third son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Stratford, he commenced his business career by entering the Brantford branch of the Bank of Montreal, and later moved to Calgary where he was connected with the construction business.  Upon the outbreak of the war, he went overseas with the 156th Battalion and took part throughout the whole period of hostilities.  He was a victim of one of the gas attacks and this undoubtedly contributed to his demise.  Seemingly in good health, he was taken ill a few days ago and the trouble finally developed into pneumonia.  After returning from overseas he was with the Western Canada Flour Mills Company, Limited, holding the important position of credit manager.  His marriage took place only three years ago to Miss Florence Kelly, daughter of former pastor of the Brantford Congregational church.  Of a most sterling character his consistent affability and many fine qualities won for him a host of friends. He is survived by four brothers and two sisters.  Graham K., Brantford; Arthur H. Stratford, Timmins; Dr. R.K. Stratford, and David R. Stratford, both of Sarnia; Mrs. R.G.O. Thomson, Toronto, and Miss Maiden, Stratford.  The funeral will take place in Brantford on Saturday with a service held in Grace church and interment in the family plot at Greenwood Cemetery.
