Circumstances of Casualty: Killed in Action. Shortly after leaving the “Jumping off” trench during the attack on Vimy Ridge, this soldier was hit by enemy shrapnel and instantly killed.

Private Joseph Richmond Barr of this city is reported killed in action on April 9. His mother Mrs. J.A. Barr, who resides at 4 Charlotte Street, and three brothers survive him. He went overseas with a Toronto battalion which wintered here. Private Barr, who was in his 19th year, was born in Waterford, but came to Brantford when very young. When he enlisted he was working with his brother at Pleasant Ridge, but prior to that was employed at A.L. Vanstone’s grocery store. The brothers who surviving him are: Thomas at Pleasant Ridge; Roland at Minneapolis, Minn., and Roy G., of Dog Pond, Alberta.
