Joseph R. Berry

The death of Joseph Robinson Berry, 88 Sarah Street, occurred, Thursday night in the Brantford General Hospital.  He was 52.  Mr. Berry was born in Brantford and was practically a life-long resident of the city.  He was well-known to many Brantfordites, serving as a letter carrier until last weekend.  Deceased enlisted in the Pioneer Corps during the First World War, and served throughout the war.  He was a member of Branch No. 90, Canadian Legion, and an adherent of Calvary Baptist Church.  Left to mourn are his widow, Sadie Smith, five sons, Gordon, Robinson, LaVerne, Roger and Billy, Brantford, two daughters, Mrs. John Marcella (Leone), Brantford, and Betty, at home, three grandchildren, his father, Alfred Berry, Brantford and one brother, Leslie, Hamilton.  Mr. Berry is resting at the Beckett Funeral Home, where services will be conducted Sunday afternoon.  Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Funeral services for Joseph R. Berry, were held yesterday afternoon from the Beckett Funeral Home with interment in Mount Hope Cemetery.  Rev. C.C. Boyter of Calvary Baptist Church was in charge and Harry Hughes sang a solo, “Abide With Me,” accompanied by M.E. Foster.  Pallbearers were J. Vernon Cook, John Mavin, Alfred Fitness, Edward Bradshaw, Malcolm Winegarden and James G. Williams, all fellow-postmen of the deceased.  Flower-bearers were also postmen who attended in a body.  The service was largely attended and there were many beautiful floral tributes.
