Two Sons of Paris Man Casualties – Joseph Matthew Brown Severely Wounded and Thomas William Brown Seriously Ill

PARIS, April 21, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Brown received sad news yesterday of two of their sons who are in France. Joseph is reported as being severally wounded, while Thomas is seriously ill. Both went overseas with the 84th Battalion. Another son is with the 125th Battalion.

Joseph Matthew Brown

Joseph (Matt) Brown, 74 of 23 Ball Street, Paris, died today in the Brantford General Hospital. He was born in England and lived in Paris for more than 50 years. He was formerly with Penman’s Limited. He served in the First World War in the 84th Battalion. Surviving are four sons, Thomas of Oakville, Joseph, Ralph and Gordon all of Paris; four daughters, Mrs. George (Isabel) Smith of Brantford, Mrs. Len (Ellen) Walker, Mrs. Steve (Lillian) Fazekas, Mrs. Douglas (Margaret) Irvin all of Paris; a brother, Norman and a sister, Mrs. Blanche Clegg both of Paris. His wife, the former Elizabeth Laycock, predeceased him. Mr. Brown is at the Bruce B. Smith Funeral Home, Paris, for service Wednesday at 2 p.m. in St. James’ Anglican Church, Paris. Interment will be in Paris Cemetery. Rev. Morley Pinkney will officiate.
