Lieutenant Kenneth Marsden Van Allen Reported Missing – Former Brantford Boy in Aviation Corps Missing After Raid

That Flight Sub-Lieutenant Kenneth Marsden Van Allen was missing was the word received in the city on Saturday by Mr. E.L. Goold. He was the only son of the late Ed. Van Allen, for many years manager of the Brantford branch of the Massey-Harris Co. Mrs. Van Allen and Miss Van Allen have been in England for some time so as to be near him.

Lieutenant Van Allen attended the engineering department of the University of Toronto, of which he is a graduate. He is a nephew of Rev. Robert Sims, rector of the Church of the Messiah, Toronto, who was informed by cable that the young aviator was missing following a raid on German positions on the Belgian coast. Lieutenant Van Allen was stationed at Dunkirk, France. He graduated from the Curtiss School Toronto.

Alighted Within the Enemy Lines – Lieutenant Kenneth Marsden Van Allen Landed During Raid at Nieuwpoort, Belgium

That Flight-Lieut. Kenneth Marsden Van Allen, who was recently reported missing, had been seen to alight on German territory was the reliable although not official word received by Mr. E.L. Goold of this city yesterday.

Lieutenant Van Allen had been reported by the British Admiralty to be missing since about May 6. This announcement was made following a raid on German positions on the Belgian coast.

Recently a letter was received by his mother and sister, who are in England, from a friend who went overseas with him, to the effect that he had been seen to alight on territory held by the Germans. It was stated that he had come down near Nieuwpoort, Belgium, with his biplane under complete control.

Mrs. Van Allen and daughter went over to England some time ago so as to be near Marsden. A copy of the letter received from his friend was sent to Mr. Goold and Miss Van Allen.

Details of Death of Lieutenant Kenneth Van Allen – Was Engaged in Bombardment of German Aerodrome

That Flight Sub-Lieutenant Kenneth Marsden Van Allen died on May 11 was the substance of a cablegram received by Mr. E.L. Good this morning. The report was received from the Red Cross and although it did not state what was the cause of his death, the supposition is that he died of wounds received on May 4 as he was reported missing on May 6th.

It was reported in The Expositor at that time that Van Allen was missing, following a raid on a German aerodrome at M**lakerke. He was attached to wing five, of the British Naval Air Service, and operated from Dunkirk, France.

Lieutenant Van Allen was the only son of the late Ed. Van Allen, for many years manager of the Brantford branch of the Massey-Harris Company. He attended the engineering department of the University of Toronto and graduated from there and also as an aviator at the Curtis School, Toronto. Mrs. Van Allen and Miss Van Allen are still in England. He was a nephew of Mrs. E.L. Good of this city.
