Ex-Ald, and Mrs. G.A. Ward received official word this morning that their son, Leslie William Ward, had been killed in action on Nov. 3. Pte. Ward enlisted with the 118th Battalion at Kitchener, and was transferred at Montreal to the 42nd Royal Canadian Highlanders. He was but 19 years of age, and had a host of friends in this city.

Details of the Death of Pte. Leslie Ward

Captain and Mrs. G.A. Ward have received from Major L.H. Ewing, for the officer commanding the 42nd Battalion, Royal Highlanders of Canada, details of the death of their son, Pte. Leslie William Ward. The letter follows:

“Pte. Ward met his death under particularly heroic circumstances. He was one of a party detailed to capture a certain pill box from the enemy, and it was while engaged in this operation that he met his death. As a soldier he had a high sense of duty, and gained the respect of his officers and the love of his comrades. We regret very much the loss of such a capable soldier."
