Dr. Lorne J. Stuart, Philanthropist, Dies

SCOTLAND – Dr. Lorne J. Stuart, native of Brant County Stuart, native of Brant County and widely known in medical and fraternal circles, died in St. Joseph’s Hospital at Brantford. He had practiced here since 1936. Dr. Stuart was also known for his philanthropies, particularly in regard to hospitals.

Born at Cainsville, he received his education in Brant County and at McGill University, Montreal, graduating in 1917. At the outbreak of the First World War he enlisted in the Canadian Army Medical Corps and served until 1920, brining many wounded back to Canada.

He started practice in Morriston, near Guelph, in 1921 and came here 15 years later.

Dr. Stuart was a member of Onondaga Lodge, A.F. and A.M. Mount Horeb Chapter, R.A.M.; Odo de St. Amand Preceptory, K.T. Mocha Temple, Shrine, London; the Brantford Shriners Club and the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Brantford.

He was long a member of the Scotland United Church and of the Brant County Medical Association.

Dr. Stuart is survived by his wife, the former Laura M. Sprowl. His first wife, Mildred Anderson Stuart, died in 1956.

He is resting at the Robinson Funeral Home in Burford until 1 p.m. Sunday, then to the Hill and Robinson Funeral Home, Brantford. Service will be held in the chapel there on Monday at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brantford.
