Four More Names on Casualty List – Pte. R. Vandecar Missing – Privates Aldred, Windle and Campbell Wounded

Several more Brantford names appear in this morning’s casualty lists. Pte, Albert Leopold Aldred of Grandview is reported wounded. His home is at 7 Huff Avenue. He is a single man, English by birth and was for nearly two years in the Imperial Yeomanry. He left with the Third Contingent.

Mrs. Norman Patrick Windle of 157 Murray Street received word yesterday that her husband had received a gunshot wound in the knee and was now in the hospital. This is the second time he has been wounded. He went overseas with the Second Contingent.

Pte. Roy Frederick Vandecar of Mount Pleasant Street is another Brantford man in the list issued this afternoon. This is thought to have been the second time Vandecar has been wounded.

Norman Patrick Windle

Norman P. (Buck) Windle, Sr., 155 Bruce Street, who died Monday, in his 86th year, of a heart attack, was born in Brantford and lived here nearly all his life.  He was a veteran of both world wars, serving overseas in the first with the 48th Highlanders and overseas with the Hamilton Light Infantry in the second.  Surviving are four sons, Norman, James, William and John, all of Brantford; two daughters, Mrs. James (Patricia) Klassen, Brantford, and Mrs. Albert (Grace) Beal, Harrisburg; one brother, Herbert Windle, Flint, Michigan; one sister, Mrs. George (Margaret) Cowell, Tillsonburg; 19 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.  Mr. Windle is resting at the Hill and Robinson Funeral Home until Wednesday for service in the chapel at 3.30 p.m.  Interment will be in the Soldiers’ Plot in Mount Hope Cemetery.

The Rev. Dr. G. Deane Johnston of Central Presbyterian Church officiated at the funeral of Norman P. (Buck) Windle, conducted Wednesday afternoon at the Hill and Robinson Chapel.  Many relatives and friends were present.  Pallbearers were T. Newitt, J. Turner, B. Varey, G. Rickwood, A. Picard and F. Casey, all members of the Telephone City Branch of the Canadian Legion.  E.R. Edwards was in charge of the Legionnaire bearers.  Interment was in the Soldiers’ Plot in Mount Hope Cemetery.
