Cause and Place of Death: Killed in Action

In a letter to his uncle, Chief Lewis, of the Brantford fire department, dated July 20, Corp. R. Montgomery tells of the death of is comrade, Ralph Westbrook, a former well known young man of this city and for some time an employee of Turnbull and Cutcliffe. Corp. Montgomery states that Ralph Westbrook lost his life while he was engaged in putting up wires at the front, and when his body was found two days later, the remains were tenderly laid to rest in the Vimy Ridge graveyard. He was apparently instantly killed, having been shot through the head. Corp Montgomery had a chat with him shortly before he went to his last duty, and speaks in glowing terms of him in the manner in which he gave his life.
