Circumstances of Casualty: Died of Wounds. Wounded in the hip by an enemy machine gun bullet during the attack on Vimy Ridge, on April 9th, 1917. He was attended to and evacuated to No. 18 Casualty Clearing Station where he succumbed to his wounds the following day.

Mrs. Jacob Cromwell, 175 Elgin Street, received word today that her nephew, Private Richard Edward Cromwell, who went overseas with the First Brant Battalion, had died of wounds. He leaves to mourn the loss but to rejoice in his glory, a father and mother six brothers and four sisters. He was but 23 years of age.
