Silas Taylor
Silas (Si) Taylor, 15 Spring Street, died today at Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto in his 65th year. He was born in England, and came to Brantford 45 years ago and was employed at Slingsby Mfg. Co. Ltd. He was a veteran of the First and Second World Wars. In the First World War he enlisted and left Brantford with the original “Mad Fourth” Battalion and served as sergeant in overseas service. In the Second World War he served with the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry in Canada. He was a member of the Canadian Legion, Telephone City Branch, Post 90, the Fourth Battalion Association and the Ex-Imperial Club. He was an adherent of the Anglican Church. Surviving, besides his widow, the former Mary Wolstencroft, are five daughters, Mrs. Harold (Mildred) Day, Mrs. Edward (Vera) Sitzer and Mrs. Laverne (Pearl) Lee, all of Brantford, Miss Patricia Taylor, at home and Mrs. Harry (Norma) Jefferies, Komoka; three brothers, Alfred, William and Mark, all in England, three sisters, Mary, Alice and Mildred, in England and Mrs. Sarah Jermany, Kingston, and nine grandchildren. Mr. Taylor will rest at the Hill and Robinson Funeral Home from Saturday noon until Monday, when the service will be held at 2 p.m. in the chapel. Interment will be in the Soldiers’ Plot in Mount Hope Cemetery.

The funeral of Silas (Si) Taylor was conducted Monday afternoon at the Hill and Robinson Chapel with Rev. Canon F.W. Schaffter of St. Jude’s Anglican Church officiating. There was a gathering of relatives and friends from the city and out-of-town points, with representations from the Fourth Battalion Association and the Canadian Legion, Telephone City Branch 90. There was a profusion of flowers. The pallbearers were J. Longbottom, B. Varey and K. Crabbe, all members of the Legion and P. Whalen, W. Williamson and E. Cox.
