Private Thomas Field Admitted to Hospital

Word was received yesterday that Private Thomas Field, son of Mr. and Mrs. B. Field, 102 Sydenham Street had been admitted to the hospital August 22nd, suffering from shell wound and gassed. Pte. Field went overseas with the first battalion from the 38th Dufferin Rifles and was drafted to the 4th Battalion.

Sergeant Andrew Donaldson, Privates Thomas Field and John Joseph Donohue are all reported wounded and gassed, while Pte. William Gunn is reported gassed. Pte. Donohue is a Canadian and formerly lived at 148 Albion. He is single and went overseas with a local battery.

FIELD, Thomas Holmes – at the St. Catharines General Hospital on April 4, 1988, Thomas Holes field passed away.  He is survived by his wife, E. Mae (Benedict) Field; predeceased by his first wife, Mabel Lacey.  He is also survived by daughters, Joyce and husband, William Molnar of Raleigh, North Carolina; Shirley and husband, Ken Knight of Edmonton, Alberta, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  Mr. Field was born in Eastbourne, England in 1896 and came to Canada as a youth.  He served in the Canadian Army during the First World War and worked in the Brantford Postal Service for many years.  He was an active Christian and church worker in the Brantford area and in several churches in Western Canada.  He was currently a member of Queen Street Baptist Church in St. Catharines.  Mr. Field is resting at the Butler Funeral Home, 33 Duke Street, St. Catharines.  A funeral service will be held from Queen Street Baptist Church on Thursday, April 7, 1988 at 2:45 p.m. with Rev. John Lekx officiating.  Visiting hours, Wednesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  Donations to the Joint Hospital Fund would be much appreciated by the family.  Interment Victoria Lawn Cemetery, St. Catharines.
