BX May 31, 1917

Mrs. Jewett, 149 Chestnut Avenue, received word this morning that her nephew, Vernon Duxbury, had been seriously wounded on May 3. He is now in a hospital at Liverpool and has had his right arm amputated. Before enlisting he was employed by the Watson Mfg. Co., and lived with his aunt.

Two Brantford soldiers are due home this week, having arrived at an Atlantic port. They are Herbert Rowley, Tutela P.O., and Vernon Duxbury, 149 Chestnut Avenue. The latter is listed among the amputation cases.

Is Back Home

With his right sleeve hanging limply by his side, Private Duxbury, 104 Chestnut Avenue, a veteran of Vimy Ridge, returned to the city late Wednesday afternoon. He came in on the 4.10 T.H. and B. train and was welcomed and conveyed to his home by Secretary George MacDonald of the Soldiers’ Aid Commission.

Vernon Duxbury

Vernon Duxbury, 77, of 75 Albert Street, London, died Tuesday at the home of his daughter in London.  Surviving are his wife, the former Annie Southworth, one daughter, Mrs. Murray E. (Anne) Harrison of London; three sons, Vernon Roy of London, John Redfern of Brantford, Maurice Thomas of Oakville; also 11 grandchildren.  Mr. Duxbury is at the James A. Harris Funeral Home 220 St. James Street, London, until Saturday, for service at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, London, with Rev. H.R. Montgomery officiating.
