Mrs. Fred Weaver of 34 Aberdeen Street, has received word that her husband, Private Walter Frederick Weaver has been taken to an Australian field ambulance hospital suffering from shell gas. He went overseas with the first Brant County Battalion and worked at the Adams Wagon Co.

Returned to Duty

Word was received this morning by Mrs. Fred Weaver, 34 Aberdeen Avenue, that her husband, Private Walter Frederick Weaver, who was reported shell gassed and suffering from gas poisoning, has returned to duty.

Walter Frederick Weaver

Fred Weaver, 137 Alfred Street, died Sunday in Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto, in his 68th year.  Born near St. George he had been a resident of this district all his life.  Mr. Weaver served with the 125th Battalion in France and Belgium.  He was employed for 16 years with the Oven and Rack Co., previous to working with the Crown Electric.  Surviving besides is widow are one son, Earl, Paris; three daughters, Mrs. George (Edith) Johnson, Mrs. Fred (Eva) Embury and Mrs. John (Marie) MacDonald, all of Brantford.  Mr. Weaver is resting at the Hill and Robinson Funeral Home.  Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed.

Walter Frederick Weaver

The funeral service for Fred Weaver was conducted Thursday afternoon at the Hill and Robinson Funeral Home. Rev. F.W. Schaffter, of St. Jude’s Anglican Church, officiated.  Many friends and relatives attended the service and the display of flowers evinced the esteem in which the deceased was held. The pallbearers were H. Land, D. Proctor, J. Hammer, R. Ewing, R. Molloy, H. Firth.  Interment was in Mount Hope Cemetery.
